You can celebrate National Trails Day with the thru-riders going from Miami to Maine for up to 48 miles from Raleigh to Durham.

A map and cue sheets for the ride are available at: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/fullscreen/78565956/

Please register for the ride here: http://ecgtrianglecabotride.eventbrite.com/

Schedule and Ride Options:

You can ride from a few miles to 48 miles with the cyclists. To join from their start (48-mile ride), meet at the Raleigh City Center Marriott (500 Fayetteville Street) before 7am for a 7:00 departure.

For a 41-mile ride, meet us at the NC Museum of Art (2110 Blue Ridge Road in western Raleigh). Be there before 7:30am for a departure with the group ~7:35.

For a 32-mile ride, meet us at North Cary Park (1100 Norwell Boulevard, Cary) rest stop. Be there by 8:15am for a departure ~8:30.

For a 17.5-mile ride, meet us at our White Oak Church ATT trailhead (1305 White Oak Church Road, Apex) rest stop. Be there by 9:45am for a departure ~10am.

For a kid-friendly 4-mile ride, meet us at Durham’s Solite Park (4704 Fayetteville Road, Durham). Be there before 11am for a departure ~11:15am.

Cyclists will arrive at the 11-3pm Cabot Community Tour of the ECG Festival (Co-Op-A-Fair) at American Tobacco Campus’ Diamond View Park off of Blackwell Street. A bus will be available for registered riders at 3pm (after some of the trail clean-up) back to Cary and Raleigh starting points ($10).

The ride is FREE for current East Coast Greenway members (registration required) and $10 for non-members. New members can join the ECGA at a special event rate of $20 (half off the regular membership!) and ride for free! The 3 PM bus back to the Cary or Raleigh start locations is $10 per rider (in addition to ride registration). Register for the ride and/or bus here: http://ecgtrianglecabotride.eventbrite.com/

On the almost complete Triangle East Coast Greenway segment, the route is 76% greenway (off-road, separated from car traffic). Most of the route is paved though some stretches are packed dirt (so most people can enjoy the ride on road or hybrid tires). Don’t expect to average high speeds, as we’ll need to respect walkers, runners, and other greenway users that Saturday morning. This is a group ride, not a race. Helmets required. It’s a rain or shine event. A big thank you to ride partners like the Triangle Commuter Bike Initiative of the DWM Foundation, Greenway Transit, and REI!

If the National Trails Day clean-up piques your interest, please join us from 2-4pm. We’ll be cleaning part of the ATT and its neighboring creek along with our partner, REI – meeting at the ECGA and REI booths at 2pm and walking down to the clean-up. A free REI t-shirt can be earned by participants

Please send questions to info@greenway.org with “Triangle ride” in the subject line. We look forward to it!

We at the East Coast Greenway Alliance are excited to work with dozens of local partners to establish a safe and accessible route for bicyclists and pedestrians to get from one Triangle community to another. We discussed the idea among the hikers and bikers that came together along the American Tobacco Trail in October of 2009. And on Friday, October 22nd of 2010, we held the public idea launch for the Cross Triangle Greenway — a 39-mile bike ride from Raleigh to Durham! In Bike Month 2011, we hosted a 28-mile Durham Greenways Ride on Saturday, May 7th and the following fall we led rides to Durham on Saturday, September 24th.

Onwards to a Healthy & Sustainable Triangle community,

Dennis Markatos-Soriano
