The Cross Triangle Greenway is a vision of a safe and accessible corridor for bicyclists and pedestrians connecting the Triangle communities of North Carolina. Only a few gaps exist between greenways and bike lanes/sidewalks before we declare this 60-mile spine route of the East Coast Greenway (a bike/ped route from Canada to Key West, Florida) fully ready for safe commuting and recreation.
The route will connect regional landmarks such as the Durham Athletic Park and American Tobacco Campus to the Streets of Southpoint to Jordan Lake to the NC Museum of Art. It will flow through Durham, Chatham County, Apex, Cary, and Raleigh, and have a spur connecting Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Soon we will update the map of our vision that identifies the key improvements we support to make the route safe and accessible for all.
Our current top priority is to help the City of Durham complete the greenway bridge over I-40 just North of Southpoint in Durham and to sign the route with East Coast Greenway signage. We aim to have the Cross Triangle Greenway open for public enjoyment by the winter of 2011/2012.
Please let us at the East Coast Greenway Alliance know if you have any questions, suggestions, or would like to get involved in this exciting effort to complete a regional treasure that area residents and visitors will enjoy for generations to come. We publicly launched our project with a bike ride on Friday, October 22nd, and now aim to advocate further trail progress.
How can I help in this project? thanks
Good question. I’d like to know too.
